You could say Tartine’s design inspiration comes straight from it’s bread: of the highest quality and honestly handcrafted in California. Commune’s goal was to create an environment that is light, pure and feels highly artisanal. Inspirations range from alpine lodges, to Danish cafes, to Japanese teahouses. Materials include plaster, oiled doug fir, marble, a mix of patinated metals, and new unglazed subway tiles by Heath Ceramics, specially created for the restaurant. Millwork, tables and most of the lighting are all handmade in California. Free of conventional “decor”, the simplicity and high level of detail in the space seamlessly reflects Tartine’s quality. It’s the perfect backdrop for Tartine’s innovative “manufactory” concept. (Commune Design)
