Located in the natural beauty of the Hudson Valley, the home of architect Jane Smith of Spacesmith is modern and contextual, inspired by the rural barns and farmhouses that dot the countryside. The symmetry and perceived simplicity of the exterior form is deceiving to what actually transpires inside. The large openings at every corner and in the apex of the double volume end walls invite the changing light and landscape into daily life from every direction. There is a sense of peace, tranquility, and sanctity that permeates the space along with an element of surprise and delight. The project includes two separate buildings – the home and a garage/studio - on an eight-acre site with magnificent views of the surrounding landscape, which features a meadow, forest, and small creek.
