The Army's new, 883,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art, $180 million Human Resources Center of Excellence (HRC) at Fort Knox. The overall design intent of the Human Resource Center of Excellence is to create an efficient and identifiable complex that conveys a sense of unity for the HRC personnel and a sense of connectivity to all of Fort Knox.
The HRC's exterior design is expressed as an attractive formal composition composed of six distinct structures. The primary landscape concept for the project symbolizes the sustaining connection between the U.S Army and its personnel. This connection is expressed in the "band and ribbon" of landscape that embraces the building from the south at the visitor's entry, to the north, at the Command entry. HNTB's concept for the interiors of the HRC is to provide a synergy from the exterior of the buildings into the main lobbies and throughout the complex. The narrow structures provide an efficient planning environment for workstations and offices of varying sizes, while a palette of sophisticated colors rich in texture provides a positive interior working environment with a professional attractive appearance.
