The Greater Columbus Convention Center (GCCC) Renovation and Expansion has a fresh, modern look, with additional space to accommodate larger events. With the addition of 37,000 square feet of new exhibit space and 10,000 square feet of meeting spaces the expansion brings the total square footage of the convention center to 1.8 Million. In addition to the the expansion much of the renovation can be seen through upgraded finishes, wall coverings, way finding, and technology in sound and lighting. The large two level atrium on the north end will be a prominent entrance used as a connection point to the Short North Arts District and will also offer space for pre-function events. The $125 million project will breathe new life into the old civic complex that was constructed in 1993. Areas of glass reveal the activity happening inside the building to the outside world, most notably where the transparent pavilion meets the exterior plaza. This transparency continues throughout the building with a new entry to the main exhibit hall and windows in the meeting rooms. Designed to serve visitors and the surrounding downtown environment, the project’s success is as much about how it engages the street as what happens inside. This project is currently registered and in the process of working towards LEED certification.
