The 82-year-old West Side Presbyterian Church project included 47,000 square feet of renovation and reconstruction work to the stone church and related buildings. The sanctuary, chapel, auditorium and other spaces were destroyed by fire in 2002. Work included reconstruction of the Main Sanctuary Building and selective demolition and renovation to portions of the adjoining Christian Education Building.
The project required old world materials and craftsmanship combined with modern construction methods and techniques. Prior to demolition, a digital laser survey of the facades was obtained in order to achieve a digital record of the original elements. Millions of data points were collected with a digital 3D laser scanner in order to re-create the drawings for specific, complex elements destroyed by the fire.
