1100’s deft deployment of lighting and luxurious materials serves to create a stunningly rich, yet simple living space. Originally a traditional pre-war townhouse, the building’s layout remains relatively unchanged in this new, ultra modern manifestation. Ribbons of light both define and smooth edges, causing planes to melt into airy nothingness. Elements, such as a wall of floor-to-ceiling cabinets that traverses the living room and kitchen, unify the residence while respecting the independent character of each room. The concealed light fixtures and absence of hardware contribute to the minimalist character, as do the seemingly paper-thin white walls. In 2008, the client purchased the apartment above the existing duplex apartment. The additional space was used to add a study and guest suite that follow the existing aesthetic, resulting in a cohesive triplex apartment. The high quality execution of the refined shapes, colors, and details was paramount to the project’s success.
