A family home in northern New Jersey challenges the traditions of suburban living. This is a modern home, both aesthetically and in function. Open and spacious, with crisp details and white walls, the ground floor removes the often closed off pretense of family life lived behind walls and closed shades. Rather, this home is opened wide to the views of the richly landscape lot behind, the indoor and outdoor realms work harmoniously. The home upon arrival is friendly but monolithic, the real magic happens right behind the street-facing facade. Immediately upon entry you are oriented to an expansive framed view of reeds growing in a semi-enclosed court bordered by the two wings of the home. Off to the right an expansive kitchen opens to a dining terrace that leads down to a clean rectangular pool positioned in the cropped lawn. The shared mass of dining and living room opens to a rocky outcrop covered in pockets of flowers, shrubbery, and ground cover. The home is formally casual. There is a feeling of restraint similar to that of an art gallery in decor, but the comfort of a home smelling of a Moroccan pastry and meat dish cooking in the oven. Art by one of the couple's children hangs next to the work of a master. Shoes off and feet up is both an encouraged and acceptable attitude here.
