With this pied-à-terre in Manhattan's West Village, SJA designed an environment for a Connecticut couple who needed a permanent footprint in the city for personal and professional use. Set in an historic carriage house, the design updated the interior decor to match the clients' taste while maximizing usable space for daily necessities. SJA optimized the layout of the kitchen and introduced a network of custom closets to amplify storage options. To create a private alcove for the bed area, SJA repositioned the apartment's front door, creating an entrance corridor. By strategically reconfiguring the apartment’s layout, SJA transformed a less-than-300-square-foot space into a minimalist home away from home for our clients. (Sarah Jacoby Architect)
